Two members of the Oaklands Wolves Basketball Academy were called up for the end of season Hoopsfix All Star Classic tie in Battersea, London on Saturday.
The star-studded event, which is made of a three-point shootout, dunk contest and two Under-19s all-star showcase games was made possible by important partnerships with Nike, Red Bull, Foot Locker and Molten to name a few was sadly called off last year due to COVID, returning in 2021 to showcase some of the best Under-19 talent both in the UK and abroad.
With firm COVID-19 protocols in place to ensure the safety of players and staff participating on the day, the stage was set for the players to bring the event to life by doing what they do best on the court.
Louise Rouse, who has enjoyed a breakthrough year as part of the WBBL side was called up to represent ‘Team White’ in the Under-19 All-Star Clash, alongside fellow Division 1 Men and EABL star Kane Daley, who has shone this year in the D1 Men’s Team with an impressive 14 points per game.
Both players, who play their basketball alongside the Oaklands College education programmes played key roles in their All-Star side’s victories, with Louise contributing 6 points and 9 rebounds towards Team White’s 81-76 win over Team Black. Kane also brought his a-game to the court, contributing 12 points and 3 rebounds in Team Black’s emphatic 115-70 win over Team White in the Under-19 Men’s all-star clash.
Second-year academy student Jocie Leavold was also selected but had to withdraw from the event.
It was another weekend to be proud of for the Wolfpack, capping a fantastic season for not only the two individual players involved, but for the Basketball Academy programme at Oaklands College, of which is still taking applicants for September 2021.
