Oaklands College is thrilled to unveil its newest Academy, the Oaklands Karate Academy, scheduled to commence in September 2023. This new Academy follows in the footsteps of our outstanding Academies in:
– Rugby Union – linked to Saracens.
– Women’s Football – linked to Arsenal
– Basketball – linked to BBL/WBBL & Basketball England pathways and competitions
– British Cycling – across multiple disciplines
– Men’s Football – links with semi-professional and professional teams
– England & British Athletics – across multiple disciplines.
These Academies have seen sports stars such as Ben Lawson, Daryl Neita, Joseph Blackmore, Nick Tompkins, Rhianna Parris Smith, Olivia Breen, Jeriel Quainoo, Reece Prescod and Gus Scott-Morriss through their ranks. Aimed at students aged 16-19, this innovative program will offer a unique opportunity to study a diverse range of curriculum areas, including Sport, Public Services, A Levels, and Multi-Trades and more, while honing their skills in the martial art of Karate.
Oaklands Karate Academy will be under the guidance of renowned Karate Kumite (fighting) expert, Carla Burkitt, a distinguished figure in the world of competitive martial arts. Carla holds the esteemed titles of British & Commonwealth Champion, England international, and multiple international medallist. With over a decade of experience competing at the highest levels globally, Carla brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the academy, inspiring and guiding students towards their ultimate goals.
This academy is for those students who are passionate about Karate to train under the guidance of a world-class instructor. “We are thrilled to introduce the Oaklands Karate Academy, which will serve as a hub for aspiring martial artists to flourish,” said Thomas Baker, Academies Team Manager at Oaklands College. “Under the guidance of Carla Burkitt, a highly accomplished Karate instructor and Kumite expert, our students will receive unparalleled training and mentorship. Through this academy, we aim to foster a supportive environment that nurtures their passion for Karate while offering a well-rounded education.
The programme will offer students the chance to study a diverse range of curriculums from including Sport, Business, IT, Engineering, Public Services, A Levels, and Multi-Trades and more, while honing their skills in the martial art of Karate.
Don’t worry if you are just a beginner, as this Academy is for everyone! Whether you are just getting started or are already experienced in the sport, the Karate Academy is for you. At Oaklands College we encourage students to widen their skillset and push themselves which we strongly believe they can do through Karate.
